"Pastoral Scene Jean Baptiste Huet (1745/1811) Entourage"
Oil on canvas Dim without frame 91/36.5 CM Dim with frame 99/44 cm French school Jean Baptiste Huet (1745/1811) entourage Son of Nicolas Huet, painter of the king's storage room, Jean-Baptiste Huet apprenticed with Charles Dagommer (around 1700 - around 1768), member of the Academy of Saint-Luc. He was then approved by the Academy on July 30, 1768 and received an academician on July 29, 1769 as an animal painter with a scene depicting “A mastiff throwing himself on geese” (Paris, Louvre museum). He excelled in pastoral and light scenes, the sheepfolds which attest to the filiation of his style with that of François Boucher. Our painting represents a pastoral scene, a young boy courting a young shepherdess. Very pleasant painting in 18th century fashion, very decorative. It is certainly basically a trumeau. The dimensions are original, the visible seam on the face was not initially visible, it appeared over time, the canvas reacting to temperature and humidity.
