Émile-Théophile Blanchard , born in Saint-Omer ( Pass de Calais ) on February3, 1795and died on February16, 1877in Paris 5 , is a French painter and illustrator , but began his career as a military surgeon 1 , 2 .
He is the son of Nicolas Blanchard and Joseph-Mélanie Merlen. He is the father of Émile Blanchard , the French zoologist.
Naturalist painter of flowers and natural history , Émile-Théophile Blanchard lives at 11 rue de la Vieille Estrapade in Paris. He was a pupil of brothers Gérard van Spaendonck (1746-1822) and Cornelis van Spaendonck (1756-1839) with fellow students Antoine Chazal (1795-1854) and Adèle Riché (1791-1878).He exhibited at the Salon of French Artists in 1818.
