Object description :

"Verlys Bird "
Opalescent pressed molded glass bird from VERLYS. Typical work from the 1920s-1930s. Impeccable condition. height 14 cm weight 650 g Objects from the Andelys glassworks are currently seeing their prices rise because the company has definitively closed its doors... VERLYS (1925-1946) is associated with the Holophane company (Andelys glassworks – Hanots). It is an art glassware for the table and decorative objects. The creation of the VERLYS brand comes from the contraction of VERrerie des AndeLYS) This artistic production was composed of several hundred different pieces. The various catalogs that we know testify to the quality and diversity of the pieces manufactured: vases, cups, animal, religious subjects… The Verlys brand found its letters of nobility in major exhibitions alongside glassworks from Lalique – Etling – Sabino …and it did not take long to attract great glassmakers. The signature of these pieces was engraved either in the pocket or on the core of the mold. The same piece could have different colors, nevertheless referenced in a catalog. This artistic production was unfortunately unprofitable for the Holophane company. Verlys manufacturing was therefore abandoned around 1946 in favor of headlight lenses. In the 1970s, the management of the Company allowed some reprints of this glassware in order to reward sporting and other events, but the molds were often worn and revealed defects: illegible signature, cracks, finish leaving something to be desired... and the colors were not always those referenced in the catalog. It should also be noted that the company no longer had colored glass towards the end of the 1990s. Today this company employs 350 people and manufactures glass pavement studs for road signs, fog light lenses and aspherical lenses. and high-tech glasses intended largely for export. Signatures: After 1925 “Verlys with a number”, “Verlys HS with a number” and “3928 91 Verlys. ". After 1931 “VA” for Andelys glassworks. After 1931 “Jean. K.”, “Verlys” with variants, “Des Hanots”. “Holophane”, “Autophane”, “Holophane”, “Callophane”, “EH”, “L’Eclairage Holophane”, “GH”, “L’Holophane”, “GH”, “Bozal”, Prismalys”. After 1935 “A. Verlys” and “A. Verlys France”.
