4 cups and saucers
Painted hard porcelain with gold highlights
Dimensions : H. ; D. (cm.)
Paris, circa 1820 - 1830
Beautiful suite of cornet or jasmine cups and matching saucers. Nanking porcelain with polychrome floral frieze around the rim. The scrolled handle ends in a palmette. Gilded interior.
This colour is not so common in porcelain production, yet it was particularly popular in the early 19th century. The name, that of an Asian city, was originally the trade name for the cottons exported from there. The tone of these fabrics was so popular that Napoleon, for example, created an entire drawing room in plane tree wood at the Château de Compiègne.
Condition report: minor wear to the gold.
