Zyg - Sigismond Leopold Brunner (1878-1961) Poland: "elegant courted study" Oil On Cardboard signed lower right Dimensions 27 x 33 cm Zygmunt Leopold1 Brunner (known as Zyg Brunner, Zyg-Brunner or Zig Brunner), born November 12 1878 in Warsaw and died April 5, 1961 in Paris2, was a Polish painter, designer and caricaturist, active from 1907 to 1949. Biography Zygmunt Leopold Brunner is the son of Henryk Brunner and Flora Landau. He arrived in France after 1900 and exhibited at the Salon d'Automne, from 1905, and at the Salon des humouristes from 1911 to 1913. His Parisian workshop was located at 34 rue Fontaine. He collaborates with numerous satirical magazines as well as fashion magazines, illustrates children's books and erotic texts. He is one of the painters who witnessed Montmartre between the wars. He then lived on avenue Junot. He died in 1961, at the Bichat-Claude-Bernard hospital, at the age of 82.
