"Pair Of Candelabra In Gilt Bronze And Patina. Louis XVI Style. "
Pair of gilded and patinated bronze candelabra with four arms of light. Each candelabra is made up of a patinated bronze love treated in the round. This love, in Clodion's style, is half-dressed and emerges from the clouds. He carries in his arms an arm of light in gilded bronze, each branch of which is decorated with foliage, foliage and flowers. The binets are decorated with finely chiseled oak leaves. In the center of the arms of light, a thyrsus symbol of Bacchus in mythology and a lyre with the head of an eagle complete the composition. The candelabras rest on square white marble bases and turquin marble plinths highlighted with beaded and twisted friezes as well as gilded bronze scrolls.
These candelabra are characteristic of the historical style which developed under the Second Empire. Indeed, Empress Eugenie, a fervent admirer of the Louis XVI style, had many imperial residences refurnished and redecorated, thus influencing the decorative arts. Work from the second part of the 19th century.
