Light and elegant, this beautiful suite of four low chairs by Gianfranco Piretti in midnight blue velvet with their discreet aluminum side legs are also very comfortable. the fully restored fabric is removable. Alky model for Anonima Castelli, Italy 1970s.

Born in Bologna in 1940, Giancarlo Piretti studied at the Instituo Statale d'Arte and went on to work as an interior designer, creating interior furniture, office furniture and the iconic Plia chair, which won critical acclaim and the SMAU award. The folding chair features a lightweight tubular steel frame, seat and back in transparent lucite.
Functional and elegant, the Plia chair is only 5 cm thick when folded. To complement it, in 1969 he created the equally well-received Plia folding table. He begins teaching interior
at the Instituto. He is often credited with changing the way the world thinks about
Italian design.
Giancarlo Piretti stays with Castelli for 12 years, and while working on various projects, his innovations are particularly visible in seating. In the late 1970s, he collaborated with Emilio Ambasz on the ergonomic Vertebra chair, an office chair with a flexible backrest, and Dorsal, another award-winning office chair. Other notable designs include Platone, a folding desk, and sistema 61, a sofa system.
After moving to Castilia, a Castelli subsidiary, he revealed The Piretti Collection in Chicago in 1988, a collection that includes over 50 different office chairs and armchairs. The remarkable feature of these creations is the mechanism on the back of the seats, which allows the chai
