Louis Cabié, renowned artist in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, circulated in the great southwest throughout his life. Pupil of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation is found in the style of the Barbizon school, he will transcribe until his death the simplicity of the picturesque French landscapes. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, bewitching valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that it will know how to raise with a vital contrast.

From 1890, Louis-Alexandre Cabié criss-crossed the banks of the Vézère in all weathers and in different seasons. It was in the commune of Les Eyzies in the Dordogne that he spent a large part of his time, and where he married his second wife in 1894. Several hundred works have been created on the banks of this river, which are for the majority not located today.

A lesser-known location, but nevertheless widespread in the painter's work, the heights of the town of Tayac show off their tiled and slate roofs, letting out a few scraps of the opposite cliffs. This very charming small format was produced in the middle of summer, showing the few houses located above the fortified church. The warm colors of the harvested fields and the walls bathed in sunlight plunge us into the middle of August in Périgord.
