Exceptional Pewter AIGUIERE of decagonal section with cylindrical body and straight and oblique base and throat, equipped with a rectangular handle with a curved base.
Clear hallmark of the artist, affixed twice: M. DAURAT.
Descriptive reference from an exhibition catalog : No. 127,
Height: 22.3 cm.
Weight: 2.075 kg
PARIS, Around 1925/35.
One of the best coppersmith artists of this period, many of whose creations are preserved in French and American museums in particular. His works were exhibited in the major art and craft fairs of the time alongside those of DESPRES, LINOSSIER, DUNAND, JOUVE, SCHMIED, MAYODON, LALIQUE, RUHLMANN…
This “museum” ewer, probably unique, is made up of different rectangular and trapezoidal elements, cut, forged, then adjusted to the template from a thick sheet of tin, and finally welded together. The pedestal is ingeniously reinforced by a bronze disc.
Bibliography:
"Maurice Daurat art deco goldsmith-sculptor" by Catherine Baumgartner - Norma, Paris, 2009
"French brassware, 1900 - 1950" by Dominique and Marie-Cécile FOREST at Editions de l'Amateur, work from which the last four are extracted photographs.
Perfect condition of conservation. Some dark areas of natural patina are noted. They could be removed, according to the buyer's wishes, by simple manual cleaning.
