Martin Bucer (Butzer), reformer, was born on 11.11.1491 in Schlettstadt. Initially a monk of the Dominican order, he joined Luther's cause during the Heidelberg Disputation in 1518. From 1523, he worked in Strasbourg to implement the Reformation, as well as later in Ulm, Hesse, and Cologne. Throughout his life, he advocated for the unity of the reform movement. Due to his opposition to the Interim (1549), he was expelled from Strasbourg by order of the emperor and accepted an invitation from T. Cranmer to England. There he taught as a professor at Cambridge, where he died on 28.2.1551.
