BATTAGLIA Alessandro, painter ( Rome 1870 - Rome 1940 ). Descended from an illustrious family of artists, he was initiated into art by his grandfather, the painter Roberto Bompiani, who gave him drawing lessons from an early age. He continued his artistic training with the advice of his mother Clelia and uncle Augusto Bompiani, both prominent painters in the Roman cultural milieu and members of the Society of Watercolorists. His apprenticeship continued with such high-sounding names as Cesare Maccari, Lodovico Seitz, and especially Domenico Morelli, who fascinated him with his skillful and intense colorism, directing him unhesitatingly to the study of life. It is therefore normal that his early period was influenced by Michetti, both in technique and subjects
He painted in both oil and watercolor, and his versatility made him treat landscape, genre painting and the figure equally well, always with a sentimental inflection.
Numerous are his participations in the most important national exhibitions.
