Object description :

"Ca Blerzy - Helmet Saucer On Its Display Stand Sterling Silver & Vermeil 1799-1800"
By Charles-Antoine BLERZY, remarkable gravy boat in solid silver vermeil. It rests on its oblong-shaped top, the latter installed on four Louis XVI style fluted legs, and festooned with a frieze of streaks on the edge; a decoration of leaves and flowers spread out in a rich naturalistic ornament and despite everything with an extreme lightness of features. Superb engraving, delightfully realistic and precise. The similar decoration on the outline of the gravy boat, being more discreet, faded by time. The body, deep and wide, offers a grip handle in the shape of a raptor's head, its stylized plumage embellished with a sumptuous braid. The vermeil being original (mercury vermeil), although faded and therefore very soft, remains very regular and homogeneous on all the pieces. Hallmark of the master goldsmith CAB, a horse's head and a star for symbols, title hallmark and guarantee to the first Rooster, 1st title (950/1000) for Paris 1798 -1809 inscribed on the gravy boat as well as on its display stand. This vermilion model, with a very elaborate display, its frieze of pearls and flowers in relief at the height of the top making a luxurious echo of that of the encased piedouche, in jerky gadroons, gives the whole a luxurious beauty; it underlines the importance which was given to gravy boats also becoming important and decorative works reserved for very luxury tables. This one, from the very end of the 18th century, whose ornaments range between the Louis XVI era and the Empire, is the perfect example. Charles-Antoine Blerzy worked a lot on prestigious commissions, he notably created a splendid engraved ewer (Christies 2023) magnificent chalices, some of which are preserved and/or listed (culture.gouv.) as well as oil holders of similar quality .
