Icon of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa. Poland. First half of the 20th century. Oil on sheet metal. mention in Polish "We flee under your protection" Legend has it that the image of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa was painted by Saint Luke the Evangelist. This icon was brought to Poland in 1382 from Byzantium or the Orient format: 34/26cm good general condition but note a slight lack of paint in the center of the work.
