"18th Century Marine Painting In The Taste Of Claude Joseph Vernet "
Superb and elegant and large marine oil painting on canvas from the 18th century. It represents a port scene on ancient architecture in the spirit of the paintings of the famous painter Claude Joseph VERNET (1714-1789). In the foreground we see the quays animated with many characters. In the background there are ships at anchor or under sail, while on the background of the canvas there are hills. The whole is set in ancient architecture, undoubtedly inspired by Mediterranean landscapes. The colors are superb with a slightly veiled sky, the rendering of the sea and the sky are very realistic. The whole is presented in a period gilded wood frame, of superb quality, the painting has been re-lined but remains in perfect original condition.
