"Bernard De Sommyevre : “basques With The Donkey”"
Bernard de Sommyèvre (20th century): “The Basques with the donkey”, oil on panel 46 x 55 cm, mounted in a pretty light flocked frame 61 x 70 cm. Circa 1930. Although we know very little about the artist, it is clear that his job as an illustrator taught him conciseness and a sense of composition! Here, southern Basque or Catalan characters walk in the mountains, accompanied by a donkey loaded with vegetables, "peghara" on the head for the women, beret for the man.
