"Louis XVI Candy Box In Gold, Enamel And Tortoiseshell, Circa 1775"
Round box in gold and enamel. The removable lid is decorated with a polychrome enamel medallion enhanced with gold flakes representing Cupid holding a torch in his hands, symbol of Hymen. It is placed on an ancient altar and surrounded by rose bushes. A motto underlines the sentimental character of this box “Here is your master”. This central medallion is surrounded by a plate of royal blue glass which covers a guilloché leaf with bands imitating enamel revealing guilloché work on gold. This same work is found on the building and on the bottom. The gold cage frame as well as the frame of the medallion have a decoration of stripes and interlacing friezes of roses in different tones of gold. The inside of the box is fully lined with a blond tortoiseshell. Work from the Louis XVI period. A stain at the base.
