Wladyslaw Aleksander Malecki (born January 3, 1836 in Maslow, died March 5, 1900 in Szydlowiec) - realist painter, landscape painter, representative of the Munich school in painting. In the years 1852-56, he studied painting at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts under Chrystian Breslauer. In 1866, he went to study in Munich, where he took classes with Eduard Schleich, then returned to Poland. In 1870 he visited the Bavarian capital again at the invitation of Josef Brandt, with whom he also initially stayed. During his ten-year stay in Munich, he participated in numerous exhibitions, notably at the Kunstverein, and presented his paintings at the 48th exhibition of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin in 1872, at the Vienna World's Fair in 1873 and twice at the Crystal Palace Picture Gallery in London, where in 1874 he won the gold medal for The Suburb of Krakow and in 1877 the silver medal for Landscape in the Bavarian Mountains. In 1880, Malecki returned to the country, where he regularly participated in exhibitions in Warsaw and Krakow. He is known for his love of outdoor work, a close study of nature which he depicts in his atmospheric landscapes. During his Munich period, he often painted in the Bavarian mountains and the Alps.
