Monumental example of pen-and-ink cappricio by Austrian artist Paul Troger, who produced them during his trip to Italy before the genre was popularized in the second half of the 18th century. The main protagonist here is the tree, which, like an ode to all-powerful nature, dominates man and his ruined creations. Comparable in ambition and quality to a leaf conserved at the MET MUSEUM and acquired for 9,000 euros at a BASSENGE sale in 2007.
