Appay was a student of Henri Harpignies (1819-1916) and Paul Lecomte (1842-1920). He exhibited his watercolors in different galleries in Paris: Georges Petit gallery, Pierre Le Chevallier gallery, Jules Gautier gallery, P. Hénaut gallery. He also exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1910 to 1920. He died in Vaux-sur-Seine on October 7, 1935
