Guglielmo Pugi, an Italian sculptor based in Florence, ran a sculpture workshop with his sons, Gino and Fiorenzo, known as "Guglielmo Pugi e Figli". The workshop specialised mainly in exports, notably to the United States. The two brothers subsequently continued the business under the name "Fratelli G. e F. Pugi".

Pugi's recurring work, centred on the biblical theme of "Rebecca at the Well", tells the story of a young woman who was drawing water from a well where she met Eliezer, Abraham's servant, who was looking for a wife for Abraham's son Isaac. The story goes that Rebekah generously offered him water. Impressed by her kindness and beauty, Eliezer concluded that she would be an excellent wife for Isaac, and she eventually became his wife.

Our work illustrates Rebecca's elegant posture and moving expression, which perfectly capture the spirit of this biblical story. It also highlights Pugi's remarkable talent for expressing grace and emotion through his sculptural art.
