"Paul Delaroche Caricature Halévy And Revolutionary Scene "
Two small pen drawings, one a draft of a scene of pressure probably during the French Revolution and the other a caricature of the composer Fromenthal Halévy (1799-1862), colleague at the institute, by Paul Delaroche (1797-1856). Paul Delaroche, student of Antoine-Jean Gros, is the initiator of a history painting with an educational, moralistic and sentimental aim which had an enormous diffusion in the official painting salons throughout Europe as well as in the school books. The two drawings are framed in a Louis-Philippe period gilded bangle and measure for the first 14x13.9 cm and the second 10x8 cm.
