An exceptional, large, decorative, and elegant pair of five-light sconces in finely carved bronze with period matte and bright mercury gilding. They are beautifully decorated with scrolls, ram heads, ribbons, Louis XVI knots, and quivers.

Gorgeous French Napoleon III period work of high decoration in the Louis XVI style, signed by Henri Picard and manufactured circa 1850.

Our sconces are to be compared with several pairs of sconces kept by the Garde-Meuble, two of which, smaller in size, are in the Tuileries inventories.

Biography:

Henri Picard, a famous and prestigious bronze maker and gilder in Paris, 6 rue de Jarente, then rue de la Perle between 1831 and 1864.

He was a supplier of Emperor Napoleon III who ordered decorative objects for his apartments in the Louvre.

He was known for the quality of his production of tableware and mantelpieces.

An important pair of twelve-light candelabra by Henri Picard is kept in the Louvre Museum.
