In black cardboard embossed like Cordou leather, this case contains an oval portrait of an entire family of six people, which is not at all common. Its ormolu mat is richly decorated with friezes, crests and foliage. Closed, this ambrotype rests facing a shaped red velvet. This is a typical presentation of 19th century daguerreotypes even if it is an ambrotype, that is to say a process which results from the daguerreotype technique but is less fragile to the light because the image is fixed on a glass and not on a silver leaf.
