Object description :

" The Pulsoconn Of Dr. Macaura"
"Dr MAUCAURA'S / Patent / No. 13932 - British Apparatus Manufacturing Company" [Leeds - United Kingdom], c. 1905-1910, chrome-plated metal body, wooden handle and crank, 1 rubber tip. Vibration massage device. According to its inventor, Dr. Macaura was supposed to help relax and improve blood circulation. The device is operated by turning the crank and, depending on the speed at which it turns, it can produce up to 5000 vibrations per minute. It is also possible to screw a rubber bulb (the rubber plunger) onto the plate to exert vibrations on a more targeted space. Originally from the United States, Gérald Joseph Macaura (1871-1941) emigrated to Great Britain in 1904 where he manufactured and patented this model. Presented during public demonstrations, the device met with great success and was patented in France. During his stay in Paris in 1914, French doctors argued against the effectiveness of the curative effects of Pulsoconn and the famous Doctor Macaura was then sentenced to three years in prison. Device in very good condition, in its original cover and cardboard box, with a guide.
