"Normandy-marine Landscape - Early Impressionism"
Very beautiful painting representing a beach in Normandy, with cliffs, around 1860/70. We had the painting restored (resumption of old restorations - see photo on the back) The work is very luminous and recalls the seascapes that Claude Monet painted in Normandy at the start of his career. It is signed lower left: "Thomsonn". In the catalog of a sale in 1876 in Brussels we found the mention of a "marine" by "J. Thomsonn", which has the same dimensions: 34 x 64 cm. Also included in this sale was a painting by “Tomsonn” without “h” which also had these dimensions. It is certainly the same painter. See the photos in the catalog for this sale. (It should be noted in passing that the collection sold contained high quality works, particularly Dutch). A fairly recent sale of a work by the same painter: https://www.beaussantlefevre.com/en/lot/9750/1796577-j-thomsonnvue-du-bassin-de-sai? This is the information we found. It would be interesting to explore these avenues further... In any case the painting is quite pleasant. Please note the painting is offered without a frame. The frame on the presentation photo is virtual, to give an idea.
