Bronze event with brown patina. Signed on the embankment “JM”. Good condition. Dimensions: 18 x 14 cm H: 12 cm French sculptor considered one of the main representatives of animal sculpture in the 19th century, particularly popular under the Second Empire. Father-in-law of the sculptor Auguste Cain (1821-1894), with whom he was a collaborator. He is the equal of Antoine-Louis Barye, Auguste Caïn, Pierre Louis Rouillard and, much later, François Pompon. Mène specialized in small bronzes, and did not create work for public statuary. Exclusive publisher of his works, the perfection of his productions is recognized. Pierre - Jules Mène excelled at the lost wax technique which allows the creation of bronzes.
