LANDRIN Germain Germain Landrin (Died in 1785) - Carpenter-cabinetmaker. Paris. Master, January 16, 1738. He practiced successfully for nearly 50 years, first on rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine, then rue de Charonne. His stamp has been noted on very careful productions, recalling the various styles in honor during his long career. Germain Landrin, was accepted as a master cabinetmaker in Paris in 1738, became a juror of his corporation in 1746 and was elected principal in 1772. He established himself on rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine then rue de Charonne where he carried out his activity for nearly a half-century. From 1742, he worked for fifteen years for Pierre MIGEON then for other fellow cabinetmakers, such as Denis GENTY and JF OEBEN, before deciding, helped by his son, to sell his production himself. Without being luxurious, Germain Landrin's works are always of excellent quality and very carefully crafted. Given his long career, he produced furniture in all the different styles that followed one another. Most are small: kidney-shaped tables, reading tables, heart-shaped dressing tables, flat or sloped desks. He uses veneers of violet wood, often arranged like butterfly wings and inlaid with flowers or geometric motifs, generally cubes. We can, however, mention an important corner secretary, topped with an ogee, veneered with rosewood and amaranth and decorated with cube marquetry, the cabinetmaker's favorite motif. Germain Landrin died at an advanced age, between 1782 and 1785.
