Louis DESCHAMPS (Montélimar 1842 - 1902) Newborn. Oil on mahogany panel. On the reverse an inscription (see photo and UV photo) "To my friend and student Marion, affectionate memory March 1900" The signature is difficult to read. We recognize "LD" Louis Deschamps painted several versions of his painting "The Abandoned Newborn", shown at the Salon of French Artists of 1884 (Luxembourg Museum, deposit of the Musée d'Orsay) and kept at the Bourg-en museum -Bresse Here he tightens the shot around the child's face. The touch is lively and precise. It recalls the style of the 17th century Dutch painter Franz Hals and that of a great contemporary painter of Louis Deschamps, John Singer Sargent. Ader sold a painted version on October 19, 2019 (lot no. 60) for an exhibition in Pittsburgh in the United States. (Photo number 4) painted in its entirety. This painting is kept at the Bourg-en-Bresse museum of similar dimensions. The painting is in excellent condition.
