Composition Box And Horn With A Medal Of Pius VII In Golden Metal. Early 19th Century.

Very interesting round snuff box decorated with the portrait of Pope Pius VII.

The box is round, in burgundy composition decorated with circular streaks and radiating pastilles.
The lid is surrounded by a metallic twist and a superb single-sided golden medal representing Pope Pius VII in profile with the inscription “Pius VII. Barnade Chiaramonti Pope in 1800”.

The inside of the box is made of blond horn.

Very beautiful box with a rare profile of a pope, these being rarely represented on such snuff boxes. The medallion is very finely made with clear reliefs and beautiful gilding.

Very good state. A stain at the base of the box, small scratches from use. Cracks inside the lid.
