Belgian painter. His first paintings were very classical, portraits and genre scenes in the revisited Dutch style.
Then his style evolved towards more colorful, fresh and cheerful genre scenes.
Our painting is one such example, painted in 1931 and featuring successive planes, several paintings in one.
Each shot is like a scene in its own right. First, a cat with bright yellow, mischievous eyes, enthroned on a large table like the master of the house.
Beside him on the left, an earthenware dish, silverware and apples in a vase designed as a still life.
Behind, to the right, a crystal decanter.
In the background, a maid prepares the table. On the wall, a painting.
Here, the painter demonstrates his mastery of all art genres and materials in subtle cameos of pink and white.
