"Empire Writing Inkwell In Ebony And Stamped Gilded Bronze "
Writing inkwell in ebony veneer and chiseled gilded bronze. Rectangular in shape opening with a drawer on the right side, resting on four claw feet, the facade with a fountain frieze, facing swans and palm scrolls. It presents on top a bowl for feathers, a powder box in cut crystal, an inkwell and a feather rinser each taken in an openwork bronze gallery. A chiseled bronze arch serves as a handle. A label in the drawer bears the signature of Grandcher (or Grandchez), jeweler to Queen Marie Antoinette. In his boutique “Au petit Dunkerque” located on rue de Richelieu, it was possible to buy objects of art and curiosities from the four corners of the world! The reputation of this brand was such that a century later we continued to call a certain category of fine hardware and precious jewelry “Au petit Dunkerque”!!
