Biography:

Alexis-Joseph Mazerolle, born in Paris on June 29, 1826, and died in the same city on May 29, 1889, was a French painter.
After entering the Beaux-Arts in 1843, he began designing tapestries and turned to decorative art. He was awarded several medals at the Salon, where he exhibited regularly from 1847 onwards. In the 1860s, he made a name for himself and began an important design career, which lasted until his death. He received commissions for the Conservatoire, the Théâtre de Vaudeville, the Monnaie de Bruxelles, the Opéra Garnier, and the Comédie Française, for which he painted a ceiling that earned him the rank of Officier de la Légion d'honneur. He was also commissioned by private clients, such as the Duc d'Aumale and singer Rosine Stoltz. His last project, for the Bourse de Commerce, was interrupted by his death in 1889.
