Ernest GAYET died in Lyon on February 7, 1900 (his birthday).
He was former president of the Caisse d'Epargne de Lyon and the Société des bateaux à vapeur sur la Saône, and an amateur watercolourist. 
He presided for several years the «society of the Friends of the Arts of Lyon
