"“the Entrance To Croisset” By Narcisse Guilbert"
Beautiful oil on canvas by Narcisse Guilbert representing, following an inscription on the back "surroundings of Rouen, the entrance to Croisset, old houses" This work with powerful and colorful features shows the main street of Croisset, on the banks of the Seine, probably after a rain storm. We can notice a subtle purplish palette on a still wet street. Narcisse Guilbert (1878 - 1942) born in Bouville and died in Rouen remained faithful to his region all his life. Encouraged by the painter Joseph Delattre (1858 - 1912), he enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in Rouen around 1895, following the courses of Philippe Zacharie (1849 - 1915). Member of the Rouennais artists' society, he exhibited at the Le Havre show, at the Rouen show and at the Legrip Gallery in Rouen. The original oak frame bears the Legrip gallery label. Very good original condition, no repainting, very slight dent in the canvas without tearing. Frame: 66cm x 56cm. Signed lower left. Canvas: 53.5 cm x 44.5 cm. School of Rouen around 1910.
