Georges Ricard-Cordingley was born in Lyon in 1873 to a French father and an English mother. He began his apprenticeship in 1887 with the Boulonnais painter Jean-Charles Cazin (1841-1901), then spent two years at the Beaux-Arts in Lyon. He joined the Académie Julian in 1889 where his teachers were Benjamin-Constant (1845-1902), Louis Martinet (1814-1895) and Jules Lefebvre (1836-1911).
A great traveler, he traveled to many countries: Australia, Switzerland, Morocco while remaining faithful to his country of origin, France. He lived in Boulogne, Neuilly then Cannes where he exhibited until his death in 1939.
The life of Georges Ricard Cordingley was that of a committed artist who devoted most of his work to the maritime world.
