"Dancer, Polychrome Wood, China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). "
Wooden sculpture representing a dancer (?) in a dynamic pose. The wood is covered in red lacquer with applied floral plastic decoration and an extruded wave pattern. The pattern can be interpreted as: 落花流水 luò huā liú shuǐ. "The flowing water carries the flower far away without leaving a trace. It is a Buddhist reflection on the fragility of life.
China, Qing dynasty (1644-1912). Height 41 cm.
State of conservation such as it appears in the photographs, considerable loss.
