Bust portrait of a man wearing the cross of the Legion of Honor. A partially missing label on the back allows us to identify the author of the pastel, it being entirely preserved on a portrait of Madame Morel kept at the Antoine Vivenel museum in Compiègne "Langlois de Sézanne Painter of the generals rue Geofroy-Langevin , near rue St. Avoie, n°323 in Paris". Our label also has the words "ex director of a...". Claude Louis Langlois de Sézanne (1757-1845) specialized in pastel portraits in the format of those of Louis Léopold Boilly. He exhibited regularly at the salons in Paris between 1806 and 1836 and at the salon of the Royal Academy in London in 1831, 1833 and 1841. The pastel is framed in an Empire frame in wood and gilded stucco decorated with palmettes and stripes of hearts. view. Without frame, it measures 20.5x15 cm.
