Born in Bagnères-de-Bigorre in 1891, Charles Bouget was first an apprentice at the Grande Marbrerie then a student of the Bagnères sculptors Joseph Gardy and Dulout, before leaving for Paris to work with Jacques Escoula, himself a Bagnères sculptor. In 1939 he returned to Bagnères-de-Bigorre and after the war was appointed curator of the Salies Museum.
