This Murano glass vase, made around 1880, demonstrates exceptional mastery of the Venetian technique, chalcedonio, to create a perfect marbled surface in imitation of polished chalcedony. The marbled effect of blown glass is achieved by adding swirls of metal oxides, such as tin, iron, copper and silver, to molten glass.
