Ottoman Empire, Qâdjâr, Iran, 19th century
Steel and iron
H. 25, diameter 20.5 cm
Consisting of a rigid half-spherical steel plate entirely engraved with a lively scene of calves and peacocks in a foliage and floral landscape and topped with a large quadrangular iron point, this helmet is unusual in that it has two pen holders on the front, arranged on either side of the curved and cut-out riveted iron nosepiece.
The entire lower edge has an iron mesh camail.
This armour helmet was worn by Persians and Indians in the Ottoman Empire.
