Jesus with a long spear pierces the serpent (dragon) crushed by the foot of the Virgin Mary
The fully Counter-Reformation iconography and the iconographic layout place the canvas in undated at the end of the 17th century. The image declined from the iconography of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, presenting the variant of the Child piercing the serpent (dragon) with a lance. The central position of the Child also accentuates the plasticity and dynamism of the work, where groups of angels appear at the edges to witness this 'heroic' gesture of the Child.
It should be placed in the Lombardy/Emilia area between the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century.
The painting is reintellated and has some pictorial restorations. Measurements including frame approx. 62x52cm.
