Art Nouveau Stork Pendant Brooch, 18k Gold And Pearl

STORK PENDANT BROOCH
in flight in chiseled 18K yellow gold. The bird holds a round, bezel-set ruby in its open beak and around its neck it wears a fine diamond necklace. A chain connects the ruby and the necklace to end with two slightly baroque pearls.

Attachment system: pin and two small rings which would allow you to attach a chain to wear this jewel as a pendant.

The stork
The stork is a happy symbol. If, in France, it is mainly linked to Alsace, it is present in many cultures as a symbol of fertility. But it is also associated with charity, vigilance, filial pity and mercy. Naturally, they are birds that take care of both their parents and their children, notably defending them until death. They are therefore also symbols of family unity.

Jewelry in 1900
In 1900, jewelry was in a period called “Art Nouveau”. It is an international artistic movement which developed from the 1890s until around the First World War, and which affected all artistic fields. We will only mention the most famous jewelers of the time: Lalique, Fouquet, Grasset… The main characteristics of this movement in jewelry are the freedom of curves and lines; the use of new materials, although considered less noble, such as glass; but also new themes inspired by nature: flora, animals, insects... Our pendant brooch is part of this line.

Condition:
Brooch in very good condition. It was carried out with great finesse and precision. Thus the carving truly shows the plumage of the bird, its eye or the skin of its legs. The pearls are slightly baroque but with a beautiful slightly pinkish orient. Eagle heads for 18k gold
