"Romantic Dagger Animated By Two Characters 19th Century"
Romantic DAGUE with TWO CHARACTERS 19th century
Silver-plated bronze and steel
Total length: 24.8; Blade length: 12.6 cm
(slightly dull tip - fine crack on the shank)
The silver-plated bronze fuse is richly animated with three figures, perhaps echoing the tale of the Magic Horse: a naked woman on a galloping horse holds a dagger in her left hand, while a crowned man stands motionless beneath a pile of stones. With his arms forming a double-knuckled guard, he holds a banner engraved with the following words in capital letters: "VE TURANNIU" - which in Corsican would imply "they'll be back".
The double-edged steel blade features two median grooves on both sides and a rich foliate scroll design, also repeated on the heel.
The button-ended scabbard is symmetrically decorated with a floral composition topped by a winged owl's head.
