"Emile Wery (1868-1935) La Pointe Fauconnière In Port d'Alon - Between Saint Cyr Sur Mer And Bandol"
A walk in the countryside between rocks, sky and sea, with this work by the painter Emile Wery who was a friend of Henri Matisse and who, like Jean-Baptiste Olive, represented the magnificent cliffs of Pointe Fauconnière in Port d'Alon on the old Chemin des Douaniers between Saint Cyr sur Mer and Bandol. The work is done in oil on a wooden panel, with large brush and knife strokes, it is offered in a golden frame which measures 51 cm by 43 cm and 33 cm by 24 cm for the panel alone. In good condition, only a few normal veins of the wooden panel in the places least covered with paint, it is signed and dated (19)33 at the bottom right. A work with a peaceful and serene atmosphere at the end of the day in a cove with majestic rocks.

He is a student of Léon Bonnat, Jules Lefebvre and François Flameng. he exhibited at the Salon of French Artists, 3rd Class Medal in 1897 2nd Class Medal in 1898, National Prize in 1900. Silver Medal in 1900 at the Universal Exhibition, member in 1901, Outstanding Member, Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1906, Diploma of Honor in 1925. Also exhibited at the Nationale des Beaux Arts, at the Salon des Artistes Decorateurs, at the Universal Exhibitions of Ghent, Liège and Saint Louis. He became a friend of Henri Matisse, whom he met in Paris (thanks to a trip to Brittany that they made with Augustin Hanicotte), who testifies to Wéry's influence on his use of color: " I soon became friends with a painter named Wéry and I went with him to Brittany. At the time, I only had bistres and earths on my palette, while Wéry had an impressionist palette.” He worked with his father and Théophile Be on the creation of the shrine of Saint Remi. The engraver Paul-Émile Colin created his portrait.
