Stitch Tapestry With So-called "bizarre" Decoration, 18th Century Style flag

Object description :

"Stitch Tapestry With So-called "bizarre" Decoration, 18th Century Style"
-Table mat, point tapestry technique (needle work, small point inclined to the right), France, late 19th century in 18th century style.

- This tapestry shows a symmetrical decoration composed of rich polychrome motifs (stylized plants and conch shells, serpentine shapes), exuberant vegetation of a very fanciful design which flourishes over the entire surface. The plain brown background, on which the patterns stand out, creates numerous color contrasts which serve the design and elegance of the curved shapes. The whole thing has a great decorative effect.

- This decor is called "bizarre", this term designates patterns imitating those of silks woven in the 18th century which were themselves boldly stylized adaptations of Asian fabrics which circulated on the European market thanks to the trade routes of the time.

- Two strips sewn together creating symmetry, doubled tapestry.

- Good state of conservation, very fresh colors.
