Object description :

"Emile Giraud (1850-1918) “aix Countryside” Provençal School, Cézanne, Wildenstein, Seyssaud.."
SUPERB oil/canvas by Emile Giraud who paints here his countryside in the surroundings of Aix en Provence, around 1895/1900, signed lower left + marked on the back. Format of the painting alone 30x40cm and 42x57cm including frame. It is therefore a rare impressionist composition with a Fauve tendency by Emile Giraud, which here represents a countryside landscape in the surroundings of Aix en Provence. Like another great Provençal painter, René Seyssaud, Emile Giraud also created a very daring composition around 1895/1900, where already like his compatriot, we can feel the beginnings of Fauvism. Indeed, whether through his very powerful touch, or through his palette here made of greens enhanced by purples, blue, red or ochre, Giraud reveals to us here the full extent of his great talent. Aix landscaper, both painter and pharmacist, contemporary of Cézanne, one of the founders of the Friends of the Arts of Aix-en-Provence. He married the daughter of the painter Joseph Villevieille. He produces landscapes imbued with a soft and poetic light "à la Corot", inspired by the Aix countryside. For the record, his works seduced the famous art dealer Georges Wildenstein who, it is said, while he was a refugee in Aix-en-Provence in 1942, filled his hotel room with works by the painter-pharmacist. The Granet museum preserves many of his paintings, as well as a notebook in which he sketched with expression his compatriots from Aix. Giraud is in my opinion one of the greatest Provencal painters, surprisingly forgotten for many years.... This canvas is in good original condition, delivered in a modern golden baguette.
