"John Englehart (1867-1915): Lake Landscape At Dusk American School / Usa Ag36"
John Englehart (1867-1915): lake landscape at dusk oil on canvas 60.5 cm x 30 cm Joseph John Englehart was a prolific, itinerant Californian painter who painted in a realistic style. He was born on June 14, 1867 in Chicago, Illinois, and died on April 14, 1915 in Oakland, California. He is known for the documentary value of his paintings of the landscapes of the northeastern frontier of America at the turn of the twentieth century, particularly those of Yosemite Valley, Mount Hood and Crater Lake. In most of his paintings he often preferred midday light to the romantic quality of the lighting effects of a sunset or sunrise, which makes the depiction of the latter all the more interesting. The work of Englehart, who painted primarily in California and the Northwestern United States, also includes views of Montana and Utha, signed using a number of spelling variations, including Joseph John Engelhart , J. Englehart, J. Engelhart, J. Englehardt, J. Engelhardt or Emblhart, and pseudonyms, including CN Doughty, CC Foucks, C. Williams, CL Willis, WL Willis, J. Cole, J. Delane, J. Enright, J. Gran, J.
