"Yankauer Mask"
Signed "Reed and Barton" [United States], c. 1910. Nickel-plated metal. Mesh mask allowing the “clipping” of a few compresses which received the volatile anesthetic poured from a dropper vial, fitted with a ring-shaped handle. The ENT surgeon and pioneer of bronchoscopy Sidney YANKAUER (1872-1932) worked at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. The family business founded in the early 19th century, Reed & Barton is one of the oldest silversmiths in the United States.
