"Original Post-mortem Pencil Drawing - Face In Profile"
Nice original drawing by Louis Thierry Kergus (1790 – 1858) on his deathbed.
The deceased is shown in profile. Produced by the notary of Plouaret (Breton commune, Côtes-d'Armor) a few hours after the death of Mr. Kergus.
His life is summarized on the back of the frame, beautifully written in pen.

Period: 19th century (1858 precisely).
Square frame in blackened wood: 18 x 19 cm Drawing alone: 11 x 12 cm

During the 19th century, it was customary to keep a trace of the deceased who was being looked after. Artists and craftsmen created death masks, frames with locks of hair, photographs or, as here, drawings.
