Corozo nut and metal
H. 3.3; L 7 cm
A corozo nut snuffbox carved in the shape of a ship with four figures in bas-relief on the lid celebrating a union: two figures seated on palm leaves, caressing a dove - a sacred bird, referring to Aphrodite, goddess of love; below a garland of flowers held by two other standing figures. A seated dog occupies the far left of the scene.
A frieze of flowers is carved on the body of the tobacco tin, while the reverse is adorned with a large flower bud.
The lid is made mobile by means of a metal hinge.
